Sustainable development of durian material areas

In order for the "export passport" of durian to become sustainable, it is essential to have strict compliance with the regulations of the importing side - China, not only during inspection but throughout the whole process. manufacture.

And farmers are the first to change production thinking.

Change your mind

Since the export market of durian was opened, durian farmers have been more proactive in applying sustainable farming solutions, paying more attention to improving product quality. Many people focus on investing to improve the quality of orchards instead of expanding the area to meet the requirements of the market.

Loc Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative (Krong Nang district) has 66 members, of which durian growing area is 70 ha. According to Nguyen Dai Ha, director of the cooperative, most of these durian areas are old plantings because people have also experienced many "expensive" lessons when they rushed to expand the area at a time when the price of their products was high. that plant increased. Currently, most of the members intercrop and then gradually switch to pure planting to ensure income while waiting for durian to be harvested.

In addition to gradually changing the area, many members of the cooperative have applied automatic irrigation technology, automatic fertilizer application, etc., in order to reduce care and timely meet the needs of plants. In addition, the cooperative also created Zalo groups to share knowledge and techniques, deploy documents related to durian… for members to promptly grasp and implement.

Or in Van Xuan Cooperative (Cu Kuin district) there are about 400 members, with a total area of nearly 500 hectares of durian cultivated according to export product standards. During the production process, all members comply with regulations and guidelines to ensure the best quality fruit orchards, meeting the requirements of the importing country. Currently, some durian areas at the cooperative are in the process of applying for a planting area code. In particular, the members of the cooperative are well aware of their role in the production process to fully meet the criteria for obtaining the planting area code, so they are very demanding in being trained and disseminated technical regulations. techniques of the importing country, knowledge of planting area codes and avoiding the misuse of planting area codes.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the area and production of durian is increasing, not only developing pure planting but also intercropping in coffee gardens and initially forming a number of large-scale planting areas to serve the needs of farmers. export demand. Some districts have large durian growing areas such as Krong Pac, Krong Nang, Ea H'leo, Buon Ho town... Dak Lak farmers also have quite good technical skills in durian care. However, in order to limit inadequacies in the context of rapid development, it is necessary to organize, link and standardize the production process in order to increase value to aim at a sustainable export market.

Building a durian development ecosystem

According to estimates of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, it is expected that every year at least 68,000 tons of durian "made in Vietnam" are sold at stores and supermarket chains in China. And durian exported to China is expected to become a "billion dollar fruit" of Vietnam. To meet this expectation, the durian growing localities of the country are building and developing the product industry in the direction of multi-value, in which building a durian development ecosystem is an important direction.

Dak Lak currently has 15,250 hectares of durian with an output of 156,392 tons. Up to now, the province has 14 packing facilities and 39 durian growing areas that have been granted export codes to the Chinese market, with a total area of 2,152/9,619 ha for harvesting (accounting for about 22). %). The province is continuing to set up 49 durian growing areas, with a total area of 966 hectares and 8 packing facilities to send dossiers to the Plant Protection Department (MARD) to apply for a code.

At this time, Dak Lak is strongly implementing solutions to build a "durian ecosystem" with the participation of management agencies, businesses, farmers and cooperatives to help with the process from planting, tending, Harvesting, preliminary processing, packing… are done professionally and transparently. In particular, the establishment of the Dak Lak Durian Association will continue to support localities and farmers to apply organic, biological and high-quality technical solutions to improve the efficiency of durian production. private. At the same time, building concentrated durian growing areas, creating linkages in production, processing and consumption of products. Thereby, helping to make durian production more stable and sustainable.

Mr. Nguyen The Anh, a member of the Dak Lak Durian Association, said that it is time for us to look at the market for production, not production, and then look at the market. This also requires great responsibility of the farmers, because they are one of the "main characters" in this story. Therefore, in the near future, the Dak Lak Durian Association will strengthen communication so that farmers are fully aware of the importance and urgency of setting up the planting area code in the export route of durian products. private.
